DUSTIN WEKESSER

Architecture and the creative problem solving process has led Dustin to become a highly skilled licensed architect, capable of designing complex projects, set in some of the most high-profile developments around the world. With much of his time spent working in Asia and the Middle East, he has been exposed to other great designers, art and ways of thinking that have inspired him to continue his artistic pursuit through multiple means. Whether working as an architect, photographer, artist or painter, Dustin enjoys finding creative outlets that inspire him to think and express complex ideas.

Dustin grew up painting and drawing in high school before transitioning to architectural studies at the University of Nebraska where he received his B.S. in Design and Masters in Architecture.

For the past 15 years, he has worked as an architect at CallisonRTKL where he currently holds the title of Associate Principal. His work includes designing Wutai Marriott, Hyatt Regency Tysons Corner, Virgin New Orleans, Hyatt Regency Xi’an, Grand Hyatt Shenzhou and Grand Hyatt Kuwait along many other projects.

Through work and personal travel, Dustin has visited over 50 different countries where he has spent time learning about the cultures, architecture and art to aid him in his work. More recently, his travels have inspired him to again explore his creative side through purely artistic means.

Dustin currently is working on a series of whimsically provocative oil paintings, experimenting with large scale abstract oil paintings as well as getting lost in patterns as he works to build dimensional paper sculptures that play with light.

Framing

I have often used American Frame to purchase frames and have found them very easy to assemble on my own at home. My Preferred frame is the Matte Black Nielsen 129 Metal Picture Frame. This is a popular frame and frequently goes in and out of stock, but it is my favorite. But they do have other good looking frames as well. Here is the same one in a Glossy Black Frame. For my personal recommendation, I would also suggest the Crescent Select Super White Mat Board with a 3” boarder on the sides and a 5” border on the top and the bottom. But if you like uniformity, then go with a 3” all the way around. Additionally, the picture size is 20”x32”, if you want the signature to be visible when framed, change the “size of the art” to be 20.5” x 32.5". This will allow for a little (1/4”) border on all sides and enough of a border at the bottom for the signature and number to show.

When you order, it is easy to add all of this to the order as the site walks you through it step by step. Then it all arrives and takes maybe 15 minutes to assemble. Unless you are like me and take it way too seriously. Then it may take you 30 minutes.

How do I buy Paper Sculptures?

Currently I am only selling those in person, in Dallas as I want to ensure the quality is up to my standards, which involves a very nice frame and museum glass. To ship this would be very expensive and this is not something that most people would want to pay for. What am I working on?

I am currently working on adding more oil paintings and prints to my fun animal series. I have a few ideas that I am thinking through and once I am content with the idea, then I will start work on the next one. Sadly, like most of my art projects, they aren’t very quick for me to do. But I am not trying to crank them out. I just do them because I think they are fun. Plus, they make me smile.

Will I ship Internationally?

I think so. Honestly, shipping prices are a little crazy all over the place. I think I would like to at least try and work with people to try to ship internationally. So lets see how it goes and if it is a terrible experience for everyone, then I may reconsider this. But truth be told, the best way to get things shipped internationally would be to just fly me to you so that I can hand deliver it ;)
